The 2025 (26th) Hainan will be held across the island province from Aug. 2-31. The ‘Cool Island’ themed event is hosted by the People’s Government of Hainan Province and held by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports of Hainan Province. This summer carnival invites all to enjoy marine culture, entertainment, outdoor activities, local cuisine, sports, and more through a comprehensive, shared, universal fun model, with every part of Hainan hosting a different local activity.

This year’s Carnival is focused on the ocean as well as new, exciting ways to enjoy the event. All cities and counties across the province are hosting their own, local events that make the most of the area’s unique landscape, culture, and cuisine, with a total of 39 activities creating a map leading attendees to the coolest seaside and central island destinations.
Hainan’s twelve coastal cities and counties cool off by dipping their toes into the ocean. In Sanya, a ‘Vibrant Sanya, Trendy Ocean’ water sports program will offer summer discount packages for yachting, diving, and other fun activities, bringing participants into the cool blue sea and sky. The Beach Combing Season in Tanmen, Qionghai combines beach fun with summer vacation. Search the shore for treasures, collect seashells, make shell crafts, and experience the cool of the deep sea at the China (Hainan) Museum of the South China Sea. The Wenchang Space Ocean Carnival fills the night with excitement with the ‘Rocket Light and Shadow Show’, with inter-tidal zone nature walks, family beach-combing, and many more activities that create bright sparks as the latest cutting edge technology meets the ocean. The Lingshui Daidai Island Beach Treasure Hunt and Beach Combing Festival invites families to head to the shore and enjoy finding seashells, making handicrafts, enjoy wild adventures, and cool off in the sea.
Central Hainan cities and counties offer a different kind of summer vacation fun - mountain and water fun! The Wuzhishan Red Canyon Whitewater Rafting Festival offers special white water rafting and high altitude suspension bridge packages, letting you beat the heat as you raft through the canyons at the heart of Hainan. The Baoting Qixian Hot Springs Water Splashing Festival theme this year is ‘Romantic Qixi Fairies Come to Baoting’, and has linked up with the local rainforest scenic area to create a ‘water play + summer vacation’ experience that’s twice the fun! In Qiongzhong, participants will follow in the footsteps of the wild green fairy, with rainforest hike and Li and Miao cultural experiences bringing you into the coolness of the mountains. The Maona Summer Vacation event in Maona Village, Wuzhishan invites travelers to try weaving Li Brocade and enjoy all the flavors of the rainforest at a long table feast, all while immersed in the 23℃ cool temperature of nature.
You won’t want to miss the Hainan Carnival’s ‘never-ending party’ on Ocean Flower Island, Danzhou from Aug. 15-16, where you can enjoy water fun, discounts, sports events, cultural performances, and more cool summer fun for all.
Main Venue Highlights: Cool Haikou Kicks Off the Island-Wide Carnival
The main venue, Haikou FUNBAY will be the center of the cool summer excitement. The opening ceremony on Aug. 2 is themed ‘Happy Ocean’, and will combine the colorful sunsets of the golden coast with water sports displays and giant inflatable installations, sparking a cascading wave of cool that will sweep across the entire island province.
The Carnival Opening Ceremony will be held on the opening day, along with 25 highly interactive, thrilling activities including performances, water sports shows, and many more exciting events that showcase the unique tropical coastal style of Hainan’s capital city of Haikou.
From the eve of the Carnival on Aug. 1 all the way through the 31st, Haikou FUNBAY will be hopping with all kinds of fun activities. The Haikou Carnival PARTY is aimed at the younger crowd, with hot topics such as the ‘emotion economy’ and the ‘Happy Smile’ IP bringing joy to all kinds of events. An Ocean Concert will be held for 14 days from Aug. 2-9, bringing musical artists together and staging ‘balcony music performances’. A summer food festival will last for the whole month, creating the perfect atmosphere for foodies and offering quite a few tasty discounts. A Carnival Sea Walk themed parade will be held for a total of nine days between Aug. 2 and 31, with both local and new, modern elements. A Carnival Tent Tour Ocean Camp will invite lovers of the great outdoors to camp on the lawn and look up at the captivating cinema screen of the starry sky. The Carnival Smile area offers a chance to capture the moment in a long-lasting photograph, and a spectacular drone show staged from Aug. 1-3 as well as Aug. 30-31 will captivate audiences with an aerial display of ‘cold fireworks’ for the first time, showcasing the unique culture of the city of Haikou.
Additionally, many other concurrent activities will be held at the main Carnival venue of Haikou. The first Cross-Strait (Hainan) Culinary and Food Industry Conference will be held in August, and activities such as the Cross-Strait Youth Culinary Competition, Hainan-Taiwan Catering Industry Dialogue, and Taipei Night Market Carnival will be held to enhance cross-strait cultural exchanges and recognition. The 2025 Wakesurf World Cup, an international A-class event, is sure to bring many top international wakesurfers to the city to compete. The second Rongshanliao Fishing Season will put local fishing culture on display, and from Aug. 1-6 the the 2025 Youth and Children's Art Conference and the 11th "Cao Can Cup" National Exhibition will bring hundreds of kids from across China to recite their memorized material on the stage. From Aug. 8-10, the 11th Boya Piano Festival and National Finals will be held, and from Aug. 2-9, a Children’s Drama Carnival will entrance kids of all ages with theatre parades as well as much more drama, drama, drama!
Variety Provides the Spice for a Refreshing Cultural Feast
The Hainan Island Carnival has always featured a wide variety of events and activities tailored to the different needs of different attendees, combining cool experiences with a ton of fun options. This year is no exception, with even more exciting events sure to thrill everyone of all ages and backgrounds.
Families can discover how to make learning cool. In Ledong, families can sign up for an easy 5k marine ecology sea turtle habitat protection hike from the beach to the rainforest, gathering seashells and fallen leaves along the way to create nature displays. The Chengmai ‘Island Design’ summer camp brings natural aesthetic education to a ceramic art garden.
‘Cool Fashion’ is the theme for the youthful crowd. Sanya’s Intangible Cultural Heritage + Cosplay Carnival Parade combines elements of the ocean with anime style to create an immersive experience. The Wanning China Jet Ski Open brings passion and speed to the sea, splashing droplets of cool across the spectators on shore, and the ‘Never Ending Carnival’ in Danzhou will include beach fireworks shows and electronic music events to ignite a cool carnival atmosphere all through the summer nights. In Qionghai, the ‘Bo’ao Night’ 2025 weekend fireworks carnival will thrill audiences at the Yudai (Jade Belt) Bay beach every Saturday night all August long.
Culture enthusiasts are invited to join in Hainan’s ‘cool folk customs’. The 3rd Country Coffee Culture Season brings together the coffee shops of the Country Cafe Alliance, with Country Cafe themed products, a Country Cafe Passport, Country Cafe Cultural Creations, and more, bringing the local coffee culture to all. Chengmai’s ‘Ruici Gongqi Culture Week’ showcases local culture through a combination of cuisine and folk customs. A long table feast is sure to please! In Tunchang, ‘Cool Hainan’ takes visitors on a fantasy journey through chess and painting, with Hanfu-clad chess players sitting down to matches in the green bamboo forest, allowing China’s traditional fashion to bring coolness to the countryside.
Meanwhile, Hainan’s Summer Food Carnival will continue. A guide to Hainan’s coolest food will be launched, including iconic local dishes such as ginseng coconut chicken soup, Hainan Qingbuliang Dessert Soup, and green orange lemon tea, which are all highly regarded as cooling, healthy foods that help the body adjust to the summer weather. Lovingly made by expert chefs from local Hainan ingredients, these foods create innovation in traditional local food culture, highlight brand distinctions, and put the treats of the season into diners’ bellies, bringing a unique touch of coolness and mouthwatering flavor to the ‘Cool Island’ Carnival.
International Elements: The Carnival Welcomes Everyone!
This year’s Hainan Island Carnival brings in the advantages of the openness of the Hainan Free Trade Port, weaving together a variety of international elements to create a platform for a cool, international experience.
This includes the Qionghai 2025 French Open Junior Wild Card Tournament Preliminary - China Station, which features top international junior players to compete at the highest standard clay tennis center in China, promoting more international youth sports exchanges. Lingshui will host the 35th Miss Asia Global Finals. Thanks to the advantages of the Hainan FTP, Asia’s top beauty pageant and new media exchange platform has adopted the "one competition, one meeting, one exhibition, one ceremony" model, attracting attention from across the globe.

Cash Back: A Cool Vacation Is Within Reach
Hainan launched the Cool Summer, Hainan Vacation summer travel promotion event on July 1. The event will continue through Sept. 30, perfectly overlapping with the Hainan Island Carnival.
During the event, 40 million yuan in subsidies is available to domestic travelers coming to Hainan as well as Hainan residents through the ‘Very Cool Hainan’ WeChat mini program or the ‘Haiyiban’ app, offering cash back for all kinds of Hainan vacation expenses including island transportation, accommodations, tickets to 4A and above scenic destinations, and dining, with each individual traveler eligible for subsidies of up to 3,060 yuan.
“The double savings of both subsidies and discounts will reduce travel costs and make it easier to vacation in Hainan, turning island travel from a dream to a reality.” A representative of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports of Hainan Province explained that during the Carnival, scenic attractions, hotels, duty-free shops, and other travel and tourism related companies will launch simultaneous discounts. Haikou CDF Plaza and HTDF are launching discount promotions such as yacht trips and hotel stays in combination with the consumer subsidies, giving travelers the opportunity to enjoy tangible benefits as they experience refreshing island activities.
